A pair of huge amber eyes were staring at me while I was working on my computer. I waited for a bit before I stopped with what I was doing and tilted my head to the right.
“Happy,” I said gently with a smile. “What do you want now, sweetie?”
He meowed, but a silent one. As you can see Happy is an Exotic Shorthair and like their Persian relatives they’re a quiet bunch. And yes, we named him Happy from this cute cat character in one of my favourite anime shows, Fairytail.
My past self would not recognised me if he were to see me now. Once upon a time, I was not an animal person and my ideal pet was a rock. I even feigned cat or dog allergies just so I get an excuse to steer away from these animals. But one day while watching Cats 101 on Animal Planet, I saw this beautiful breed and it melted my frozen heart. I told Odd about getting this type of cat and he was ecstatic because he always wanted a cat after the demise of their own pet, Gulliver.
We scoured the Internet and finally we found a breeder, May, (bless her heart for being so nice) who agreed to sell one of her precious fur babies to us. After waiting for almost two months we finally got him and we were so thrilled.
So he meowed again, but this time it was no longer silent. A sound came out reminisced to a radio having frequency troubles and it broke my train of thought.
“Fine,” I said rolling my eyes as I stood from my seat and moved to the sofa. I grabbed the remote from the coffee table and turned the telly on. I was standing while I surfed on different channels finding something interesting to watch before I finally settled to watch the reruns of Top Model and flopped on the soft cushion. Happy followed suit and sat next to me, his eyes now glued on the telly.
A couple of minutes had passed and he placed his two paws on my thigh and gave me a pleading look. So I stroked his head and then scratched an area above his tiny nose. He liked it, which was evident with the distinct purring.
“The motor just started,” said Odd, grinning as he joined us on the sofa, sitting next to me as Happy moved to my lap. If someone took a picture of us, we would look picture perfect as an unconventional family with our fur baby.
The winner of the guessing game in my previous post is Jeruen! Congratulations and regarding the prize (a souvenir from my beloved country, Norway), please send me your mailing address through the contact page here.
